Fereydoon Zandi undermined his first team ambitions by assisting FC Kaiserslautern’s first goal in the important 2-0 victory over Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday.

The Iranian playmaker played the full 90 minutes and played a vital role in the win which helped Kaiserslautern climb up to the 16th position, level on points with FSV Mainz on the last non-relegation spot.

Zandi received the ball on the left side of the penalty area and directly crossed the ball to Sanogo who made it 1-0 early in the game. In the dying minutes of the game it was again Sanogo who scored the second of the day thanks to a blunder by Bielefeld’s keeper Matthias Hain.

Fereydoon Zandi had already been told to find a new club in the winter break, but managed to get back into Kaiserslautern’s first team with good performances during the last weeks.

Meanwhile the duel between Vahid Hashemian’s Hannover 96 and Ali Karimi’s Bayern Munich ended in a 1-1 draw. Both Hashemian, who was subbed out ten minutes from time, and Karimi, who played the full 90 minutes for the first time for Bayern, showed satisfying performances.

Karimi, who started in right midfield and later switched back to a central defensive midfield position, was even close to opening the scoring at the end of the first period, but was denied by the goalpost after a classy dribbling inside the box.

Thomas Brdaric brought Hannover in front after 57 minutes, but a last-minute header by Michael Ballack levelled the scoreline to secure a point for Bundesliga leaders Bayern.

Hamburg remain in second position of the table after their 2-1 away victory over Frankfurt on Sunday. Piotr Trochowsky and Daniel van Buyten scored for Hamburg, while Alexander Meier marked the homeside’s only goal.

Iranian international Mehdi Mahdavikia played the full 90 minutes, first as rightback and later as rightwinger, and showed a good performance
