Hamburg suffered a setback in the fight for a Champions League spot, as the Northern Germans lost 2-4 at home to Borussia Dortmund in German Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon.
Smolarek brought Dortmund ahead in first half, but Hamburg turned things around through goals by Lauth and Ailton. However, two stunning shots from outside the area by Rosicky and Kringe restored Dortmund’s lead, before Rosicky’s second of the day put the icing on the cake in injury time.
Mehdi Mahdavikia started as rightback for Hamburg and was subbed out shortly after Dortmund’s third goal. The Iranian, who was not on fault on any goal, had an average performance.
Hamburg remain in second position of the table, but already trail leaders Bayern, who, without the injured Karimi, defeated MSV Duisburg by 3-1, by nine points.
Hannover 96 showed an impressive performance in first half against Werder Bremen and totally dominated the German topside, before two late goals gave Bremen an undeserved halftime lead. Two further quick goals shortly after the break then decided the match in Bremen’s favour, who even scored a fifth late in the game.
Iranian striker Vahid Hashemian played the full 90 minutes, but failed to impress.
On Sunday evening, FC Kaiserslautern booked a 3-0 victory over Borussia Moenchengladbach. Altintop (2) and Skela were on target for Kaiserslautern. Iranian playmaker Fereydoon Zandi came on as substitute seven minutes from time. Kaiserslautern, however, remain on a relegation spot.
In Austrian Bundesliga, bottom placed Nordea Admira handed reigning champions Rapid Vienna a surprising 2-1 defeat. Mehdi Pashazadeh did not participate in this game due to his one-match-suspension.
