In their first game for qualification for the 2008 Olympics, Iran Olympic Team (Omid) drew 0-0 with ’s youth team.
The game was part of a four nation tournament held in Vietnam. The other teams are Uzbekistan under 23 and Vietnam’s senior national team.
The game was mainly a non event with the highlight being a penalty save by the Aussie’s keeper Vukovic in the 32nd minute and a header against the cross bar in the second half.
Immediately after the break Iran almost scored when a looping header hit the cross bar before going out to safety.
Australia missed a chance to win the game late on when Iran’s keeper fumbled the ball from a free kick, but managed to recover and gather the ball before the Australian forwards had a chance to pounce on the loose ball.
Iran will now meet the Uzbek under 23 on Tuesday.
