PFDC, Reggio Calabria
Messina had to win this game to keep their place in Serie A alive, however a 3-0 loss against old rivals dropped the Sicilians into Serie B for next season.
Messina had the better start, but as it has been the case the whole season, the offense could not capitalize on their scoring chances.
The home side remarkably turned the game around in the second half. Reggina broke the deadlock thanks to their captain Cozza.
Six minutes later, Amoruso converted a penalty to double Reggina’s lead.
Messina’s hopes of staying in Serie A were killed off completely when Parisi was sent off for a horrible two-footed tackle on Cozza.
Amoruso sparked a counter-attack for Rolando Bianchi to fire in from close range and put the final nail in Messina’s coffin.
Iranian international, Rahman Rezaei played the full 90 minutes and displayed a satisfying performance despite appearing tired in the second half. The 30-year-old defender almost scored his first goal of the season, but his powerful shot was beautifully palmed away.
