Hertha Berlin and Hamburg SV played out a 1-1 draw in an ill-tempered Bundesliga match on Sunday with both teams finishing with 10 men.
Boubacar Sanogo gave Hamburg the lead in the 18th minute with his third goal of the season but Hertha newcomer Christian Gimenez got the equaliser in the 64th, latching on to a loose ball in front of the goal and beating Sascha Kirschstein.
It was the third draw in three matches for Hamburg, a disappointing start for the team who finished third last season and have title aspirations this time around. They are now 11th with three points while Berlin are in sixth on five points.
Sunday’s other game between Frankfurt and Mainz also finished 1-1.
Nuremberg remained top the standings on goal difference after their scoreless draw at Bayern Munich on Saturday. Bayern are second and Schalke third. All three have seven points.
