AFC, TEHRAN
Iran coach Amir Ghalenoiee is hoping that the inclusion of Europe-based stars will make a difference when Team Melli take on Korea Republic in the AFC Asian Cup 2007 away qualifying round on September 2.

Ghalenoiee lost little time in summoning the recovered Ali Karimi (Bayern Munich), Vahid Hashemian (Hanover 96) and Rahman Rezaei, who is reportedly negotiating a deal with Livorno, after being held to a shock 1-1 draw by Syria on Match Day 3 at the Azadi Stadium on August 16.

“We will have all our Europe-based players in Korea (for the match),” Ghalenoiee said yesterday before the team flies to Seoul late Tuesday.

Though Ghalenoiee was practical enough to admit that a haul of the full points on offer against the Pim Verbeek-led Koreans was difficult on their home turf.

“This is the first time the full-strength squad is together after the World Cup and we will train behind closed doors in Seoul for maximum preparation. I hope to get back with a point in hand.”

“The match is very important on way to the Finals,” added Ghalenoiee.

Iran are two points behind leaders Korea Republic’s six in Group B after a 4-0 win over Chinese Taipei and the 1-1 draw against Syria, who are third on goals scored. Chinese Taipei are yet to open their account in the group.

THE SQUAD: Ebrahim Mirzapour, Hassan Roudbarian, Vahid Taleblou, Rahman Rezaei, Mahmoud Fekri, Hadi Shakouri, Hossein Kaebi, Alireza Nikbakht Vahedi, Mohammad Nosrati, Hadi Aghili, Javad Nekounam, Andranik Teymourian, Hossein Kazemi, Mehdi Mahdavikia, Mehrzad Madanchi, Javad Kazemian, Vahid Hashemian, Reza Enayeti, Siavash Akbarpour, Ali Karimi, Mehdi Rajabzadeh, Farhad Majidi.
