Korea Republic coach Pim Verbeek was left ruing the fact that his side didn’t capitalise on their attacking strength as a last gasp equaliser earned Iran a draw in their 2007 AFC Asian Cup qualifier on Saturday.
Korea Republic coach Pim Verbeek:
“We had six attacking players out there and that should have been enough to decide this game.
“We are all very disappointed because we scored a good goal but if you don’t score a second then these things can happen. It is a pity that it happened this way but against a team like Iran you have to concentrate until the last minute and that is what we didn’t do.
“The players have one day to get over this and then from Monday we will focus only on Chinese Taipei. We will take a look at the players and see which ones are fresh both physically and mentally.
Iran coach Amir Ghaleneoi:
“It was tough to attack in the first half but we changed things in the second and our forwards were able to put pressure on the Korean defenders.
“Towards to the end of the match the Korean players had lost some of their power and with 20 minutes remaining we pushed forward. It was satisfying to get the goal right at the end.
“It was a good game for everyone - the players and the fans. Last year we lost here 2-0 but this time it was 1-1. This is a very good result for us but now we have another big game next week against Syria.”
