AZ Alkmaar defeated Kayserispor 3-2 in their first European match at their new stadium. The Dutch club, currently ranked first in the Dutch league had underestimated the Turkish club and had a difficult game.
After just seven minutes Danny Koevermans opened the score from the penalty spot for AZ, but the Turkish team levelled 18 minutes later with a goal of Bulent Bolukbasi. However AZ took the lead again in the 33rd minute when Rogier Molhoek scored the second goal of AZ. Kayserispor with striker Gökhan Ünal having a great performance tried to score the equalizer before half time but they missed an excellent chance.
In the second half both teams were attacking but it was AZ Alkmaar who scored first. After beautiful passing by the AZ players, the Georgian striker, Shota Arveladze scored the 3-1. But Kayserispor didn’t gave up and just four minutes later they scored their second goal.
Iranian midfielder Hamed Kavianpour came into the game in the 73rd minute, but he and Kayserispor had a difficult time from that moment. The players of the Turkish team looked very tired and all they could do was defend. AZ Alkmaar had great chances to score another goal but they missed them.
