Despite an assist from in-form Vahid Hashemian Hannover 96 suffered their first defeat under coach Dieter Hecking, going down 1-2 to Schalke 04.
Hannover had a bright start, however, lost control of the match after ten minutes. Goals by Bajramovic (18′) and Kobiashvilli (27′) were the logical consequence.
The visitors showed an improved performance in second interval and pulled one back when Hashemian headed a Huszti-cross to young midfielder Rosenthal, who scored with a powerful shot from the edge of the box.
It was the Iranian’s sixth scorer point (three goals, three assists) in the eighth round of German Bundesliga.
The Team Melli striker almost scored the equalizer late in the game, but could not get the ball on target from close range after a corner kick when being surrounded by three opponents.
In another Bundesliga encounter Ali Karimi came on 22 minutes from time in Bayern Munich’s 1-3 defeat against Werder Bremen. Bremen booked a deserved victory thanks to goals by Diego, Wome and and owngoal by Lucio and remain on top of the table. Bayern, for whom Makaay scored the goal of the day, are fourth.
Karimi was subbed in for the disappointing Podolski when the score was already 3-1. The Iranian international showed a solid performance but didn’t have too many ball contacts and therefore failed to add any extra flavour to Bayern’s unimpressive offense.
Hamburg will take on Leverkusen on Sunday in the final of three matches without the suspended Mehdi Mahdavikia.
